Why Pro iPhones help
Supported iPhone 12 Pro and later Pro models include a LiDAR Scanner. It measures depth while you move, improving scale, tracking, and fast capture around rooms and larger objects. Not every newer iPhone has LiDAR.
Choose the capture method
- Photogrammetry: best for toys, sculptures, products, and detailed objects using many overlapping photos.
- LiDAR: fast for rooms, furniture, people-sized forms, and measurements where scale matters.
- Single-image AI: useful for invention, but not a faithful scan of unseen sides.
Apps to try
- Polycam: object photogrammetry on many phones and LiDAR space modes on supported devices.
- RealityScan: guided photo capture for detailed textured objects on iPhone or Android.
- Scaniverse: camera scanning with depth information when LiDAR is available.
Capture a cleaner model
- Use bright, soft light and a plain, nonreflective background.
- Keep the object still and move slowly in several complete circles.
- Capture the top, underside edges, and hidden recesses.
- Crop, confirm scale, repair holes, and inspect the slicer preview.
Clear, shiny, black, featureless, or moving objects are difficult to scan. Removable matte spray or visual markers can help when appropriate.
